ఓ జలజలా రాలుతున్న మంచు!

ఈ తుచ్ఛమైన జీవితాన్ని

నీలో ప్రక్షాళన చేసుకోనీ!

రోడ్డువార చిన్ని మొక్క

దారినపోతున్న వారిని చూడాలని ముందుకి వంగింది.

దారినపోతున్న ఓ గాడిద దాన్ని నమిలి మింగింది.

ఓ పిచ్చుక మిత్రమా! వేడుకుంటాను.

నా పూల రెమ్మల్లో రాగాలుతీస్తూ

ఆడుకుంటున్న కీటకాల జోలికి పోకేం?

ఎక్కడో దూరంగా, ఒంటరిగా ఉన్న తటాకం

అందులోకి చెంగున ఒక కప్ప దూకీ దాకా

నిశ్చలంగా, యుగాలనాటి నిర్వికల్ప సమాధిలో ఉంది.

ఇరవై వేలకు పైగా వీరులు హతులైన

ఆ యుద్ధభూమి ఏనాటిదో! ఆ కలకి స్మృతిచిహ్నంగా

ఇప్పుడక్కడ మిగిలింది వసంతశోభకు తిరిగి పూచిన పూలే!

పూర్వీకుల సమాధుల ముంగిట, పండు ముసళ్ళు

ఆ కుటుంబానికి చెందిన వారే అందరూ

ఇపుడు ఒంటరిగా ఎవరి పెట్టెల్లో వారు చేరబడి ఉన్నారు.

ఓ ఇలకోడీ! నీ కేకలూ, త్రుళ్ళింతలూ చూస్తూ

నువ్వు ఎంత తొందరలో గతించనున్నావో

ఎవరూ పసిగట్టలేరు సుమా!

Quick-falling dew,

Ah, let me cleanse in you

This wretched life.

The roadside thistle, eager

To see the travelers pass,

Was eaten by the passing ass.

Friend sparrow, do not eat, I pray

The little buzzing flies that play

Among my flowers

A lonely pond in age-old stillness sleeps…

Apart, unstirred by sound or motion… till

Suddenly into it a lithe frog leaps.

Old battle field, fresh with Spring flowers again-

All that is left of the dream

Of twice ten thousand warriors slain.

Old men, white-haired, beside the ancestral graves,

All of the household now

Stand lonesome, leaning on their staves.

O cricket, from your cheery cry

No one could ever guess

How quickly you must die.
